¡Hola futuros expatriados! So you've decided to trade your current life for palm trees, Panama hats (which, fun fact, actually originated in Ecuador), and perfect weather? Whether you're chasing the digital nomad dream, retiring in paradise, or just escaping whatever winter nightmare you currently call home, here's your no-nonsense guide to relocating to Panama without losing your mind - or yikes, overpacking.

Bring These Treasures … your future self will thank you

1. Electronics & Tech Gear

Panama has electronics, but prepare for sticker shock. The same laptop that costs $1,000 in the US might run you $1,400+ here. Bring:

  • Your laptop (plus backup)

  • Phone (unlocked!)

  • Camera equipment

  • Specialty electronics you can't live without

  • Surge protectors (power fluctuations are real)

  • E-readers loaded with books (access to printed books in English can be hit-or-miss depending on the store)

2. Specific Medications & Health Items

  • Prescription medications (bring several months' supply while establishing local healthcare)

  • Your favorite over-the-counter medications (which gives you some time to explore the different brands here)

  • Specialty vitamins or supplements you're loyal to

  • Favorite sunscreen (quality options exist but are pricey)

  • Specific skincare products you swear by

3. Clothing Considerations

  • Good quality shoes, especially if you wear larger sizes (US sizes 10+ for women, 12+ for men are harder to find)

  • Professional clothing if needed (more limited selection, especially for business attire)
